How to Make Christmas Magazine Angels

This Christmas craft is an oldie, but goodie. In fact, our mom remembers making Magazine Angels for Christmas as a kid and we thought we'd give it a try. This DIY Centerpiece would look amazing as on a table for the holidays or on display in a room.

It's hard to believe the body of this angel is created entirely from two magazines. Now, you can embellish your angel as much or as little as you'd like. Our Step by Step YouTube Video show kids how to make Magazine Angels on their own. Follow the steps below or watch our video here!

STEPS TO MAKE THE BODY OF YOUR CHRISTMAS MAGAZINE ANGELS

STEP 1:  Choose to magazines the same size and begin folding each page (including front & back covers) following the steps below or as seen in our video. Repeat the process for both magazines.

A-D) Take the top right corner of the page and fold in to the left margin about 3/4" of the way down. Crease the fold at an angle so it resembles a sail on a boat.

E-H) Grab the right edge of the "sail" or page and fold in to the left margin. Crease the vertical fold down.

TIP: Use a popsicle stick or ruler to crease page folds firmly.

STEP 3: With both magazines Mod Podged (glued) together, paint them White. This will become your Magazine Angle's dress or body.

STEP 4: Paint your doily a gold color and let dry. On a side note, you could also purchase gold doilies.

STEP 5: Fold the doily in half and cut vertically down the center to create two Angel wings.

STEP 8: Wrap the ribbon around the dowel. In between the head and body to hide the dowel rod and give the Angel a neck. Dab a little hot glue on the end of the ribbon to secure it in place.

STEP 9: Before starting this step, it's a good idea to think about your Angel's hair. For example, do you want pigtails or a bun? Once you've decided, stretch the cotton balls to thin them out and Mod Podge them accordingly to the foam ball. TIP: We used red pipe cleaners to create Angel pig tails.

STEP 10: Cut little slivers of black paper for the eyes, nose & mouth.

STEP 11: Using a paint brush, apply Mod Podge where you want the Angel's eyes and adhere them to the foam ball. Repeat this step for the nose & mouth.

STEP 12: Now, bend your pipe cleaner into a circle for the halo and attach another one to slide down the Angel's back. Dab a little hot glue against the vertical pipe cleaner and the Angel's body to secure. OOPS...We forgot to shoot this part, sorry.

STEP 13: ADMIRE!

PLEASE NOTE: To keep the craft simple for kids, we didn't add angel arms or a book in our video tutorial. If you want to achieve that effect, it's simple by wrapping a small part of a coffee filter around a q-tip and hot gluing in between the pages.
