One of the sisters has a birthday coming up! With a cupcake theme in full swing we're making room & party decorations. Watch Kids Crafts by Three Sisters teach you how to make Cupcake Garland that looks good enough to eat.

The center of our cupcake is actually a yarn pom pom. And if you don't know how to make one, don't worry, you won't need any fancy equipment. You can use your hands 😉 So grab the supplies below and let's get started.

ITEMS NEEDED TO THIS CUPCAKE CRAFT:
• Yarn in as many colors as you like
• Cupcake liners
  (We used small and large)
• Small felt balls or a piece of cotton painted Red
• Scissors
• Hot glue gun
• Yarn needle
• String or thin wire to thread the cupcakes

For simplicity, our tutorial focuses on the small cupcakes. Because of the size of children's hands, these are easiest for kids to create.

If  you're interested in making the large cupcakes, look for directions in the STEPS below.

STEPS TO CREATE OUR YARN POM POM CUPCAKE CRAFT:

STEP 1:  Begin by cutting a piece of yarn about 6" long and drape it in between your middle finger and ring finger.

STEP 2:  With the 6" yarn in place, take the end piece of yarn from the spool and hold it with your thumb. Now wrap the yarn around your first four fingers 30 times.

LARGE CUPCAKE NOTE: If you're making the large cupcake, which is ideal for adult hands, wrap the yarn around the first four fingers 60 times.

STEP 3:  Now that the yarn is wrapped 30 or 60 times around your fingers, grab the 6" string that's draped between your fingers and tie a loose knot. This will hold the bundle together while you slide the yarn off.

Once the yarn is off your fingers and on the table, tie the knot tightly three times so that you have what resembles a little package.

NOW FOR THE FUN PART...

STEP 4:  With the knot in the center of the yarn tight, trim and cut the string. Cut the loops around the yarn package to create the yarn pom pom. AS DETAILED IN THE VIDEO.

STEP 5:  Now shake out your pom pom and trim the edges as desired. Put hot glue inside a small or large cupcake liner and drop the yarn pom pom inside.

LARGE CUPCAKE NOTE: We used two yarn pom poms for the large cupcake. Hot glue one pom pom inside the cupcake liner and then the second one on top.

STEP 6:  Once the pom pom is glued in placed, trim the yarn pom pom to look more like a cupcake. For example, we made our yarn strands smaller at the bottom and triangular in shape. When you're satisfied with your shape, put a dab of glue on your cherry and add it to the top.

CHERRY NOTE: If you don't have a cherry, make your own. Tear off a little bit of cotton, roll it into a small ball, paint it red and then glue it on top.

STEP 7:  To complete our cupcake craft, we threaded a yarn needle with string and wove the needle right through the center of our cupcakes. This cupcake garland is the perfect party decor for any birthday party!
